A Ben Chilwell screamer earned a narrow win for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea against the league’s new boys Brentford on Saturday with the Blues retaining the spot at the summit of the table.

Both teams got the game started on equal footing in what was a slow start from either camp on the attacking front despite their rich returns in front of the goal this new season.
The hosts, however, had a major chance on goal early on when Bryan Mbeumo’s effort from close range hit the post as Chelsea looked to pile pressure on the opposite end of the pitch.
Romelu Lukaku thought he had given his side the advantage they needed when he found the back of the net but the Stamford Bridge returnee’s strike was ruled out for offside.
Timo Werner went close but his effort went wide before Ben Chilwell’s fantastic half volley proved to be the breakthrough for Thomas Tuchel’s men who went into the half time break with the lead.
Brentford switched on their gears after the break and striker Ivan Toney forced Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy into action with a couple of important saves.

Mbeumo had another effort hitting the post while Mendy’s importance between the sticks grew as he defied the hosts with crucial stops to keep his side in line to claim the win.
