According to Sky Germany (h/t Teamtalk), Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund want Chelsea star Ian Maatsen to stay at the club amid reports stating that he is set to return to Chelsea this summer.
The Dutch ace has been phenomenal for Edin Tezic’s side since moving to Signal Iduna Park in January on loan. Chelsea decided to renew his contract until 2026 before sending him to Germany in the recent transfer window.
Maatsen has taken very few games to win admirers in Dortmund by registering one goal and two assists in 13 games for the club. Die Borussen wants the player to stay at the club beyond the summer since he has an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea have inserted a £35 million release clause in his contract. Dortmund are not ready to activate this price and are looking to convince the Blues to let the youngster leave on a second loan spell to Dortmund.
Maatsen has been a star performer for his loan club and it would be wise for him to move to a club which loves to nurture young talents.

The 22-year-old is not in Mauricio Pocehttino’s plans this season and it will be difficult for him to overtake Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill in Chelsea’s defensive pecking order.
Being at the Bundesliga outfit will suit the left-back’s plans for the upcoming season. However, both clubs need to work out a deal. Chelsea haven’t placed a buy option in the player’s contract.
They can modify this deal when the player joins Terzic’s side on a second loan spell. They can add a release clause much cheaper than the current one and it will help Dortmund sign the player in the long run.

However, the Blues can extract more profit if they decide to sell him permanently this summer. Todd Boehly’s side are looking to gather profits by selling players like Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher and now Maatsen could be included in this list.
It remains to be seen whether the player prefers to join his current club and leave permanently this summer.
