Borussia Dortmund Face Being Priced Out Of A Deal To Sign Chelsea Star Ian Maatsen

According to the Mirror, Borussia Dortmund risks being priced out of a permanent deal to sign Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen this summer.

The 22-year-old is in scintillating form for the German giants in the Champions League and Bundesliga. The Dutch ace scored a goal in the club’s 4-2 win against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal stage last week.

Due to his current form, Dortmund might be looking to sign Maatsen permanently in the upcoming months. However, they failed to insert the buy option in his contract as Chelsea were looking for £30 million in January.

Dortmund’s chief Sebastian Kehl earlier revealed that it was difficult for the club to match that fee as it would equal the club record fee they paid for Ousmane Dembele in 2016.

The club might now be regretting the decision to insert that clause as the Blues are in a commanding position to demand an extra fee for the youngster.

It has been claimed that Chelsea are now holding out for £35m for Maatsen. Dortmund will find convincing the English club to reduce their demands even more difficult.

It is advantageous for Todd Boehly’s side since they are looking for funds to balance their financial books. This will help them to avoid any restrictions from FFP next season.

Will BVB be successful in signing Maatsen permanently this summer?

Dortmund is in a tough situation to agree on a deal to sign Maatsen and Jadon Sancho. Fierce rivals Bayern Munich are also keen admirers of the Dutch international and they have the financial power to initiate a move.

Alphonso Davies is being closely linked with a move to Real Madrid and the Bavarian giants could target Maatsen as their first-choice replacement.

Maatsen had the chance to join Burnley last September but he snubbed a transfer and moved to Signal Iduna Park instead.

He will be looking forward to staying with the German club but it remains to be seen whether they can find a middle ground in this deal.
