Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the former forward for Chelsea, believes Billy Gilmour to be a key player for Chelsea in the future. The Italian player, who plays as a midfielder for the Blues has shown his mettle in the playground and earned all praises.
However, the blues are themselves in a miserable condition in the first phase of the premier league. Billy Gilmour raised up the team’s spirit with some brilliant substitute displays in the midfield.
Billy Gilmour was lavished with praise ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup fourth-round clash with Luton Town on Sunday lunchtime. According to the former Chelsea forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Gilmour will put his foot in Jorginho’s boot in the side in the future.
Gilmour has played a limited time for Chelsea in the Premier League this season. On other hand, Jorginho has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Arsenal reportedly eyeing up the former Napoli star back in the summer.
Being unfortunate, Gilmour gets fewer chances to hit the ground as a player but used as a substitute. Out of 19 times, he made it to the ground only 7 times while his counterpart Jorginho appears 18 times. Still, Hasselbaink has a strong gut feeling that believes the teenager can unrest him.
He told BBC Sport that Gilmour has a wider skill set than the ex-Verona player. Fellow pundit Danny Murphy said Gilmour’s performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup last season was something to behold.
“I like him, he handles the ball really, really well,” he said as per football.London news. “Chelsea bought Jorginho a few years ago and they now have this boy coming through and I think he will take Jorginho’s place. He has more [about him] than Jorginho.
“He is a really, really good talent.”
“When you think of [Paul] Scholes, Xavi and players like that… he is brilliant.”
Gilmour was out of the team for complete September to December due to his knee injury which he has struggled with. Manager Frank Lampard has also praised the Scottish U21 international on several occasions.
Chelsea will face Wolves in their upcoming Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Currently, Chelsea is sitting in the ninth position in the table.
