Billy Gilmour hoping to get more minutes under Lampard after returning from his injury

Chelsea’s young attacker, Billy Gilmour hopes to get more playing time under Frank Lampard after the FA Cup game against Morecambe where Chelsea won 4-0 quite easily.

The young midfielder was the best young performer in the year 2019 when he impressed Lampard by grabbing opportunities for the first team. He bagged the consecutive man-of-the-match performances and his display against Liverpool was quite magnificent. Just when he was experiencing things going so well for him, he was brutally injured and had to stay out of the field for a lot of time as he operated his knee.

The previous campaign got him just 11 matches in all competitions as he played with Kante and Kovacic in the midfield. He played well when he came in the second-half against Manchester City and bagged an assist in yesterday’s FA Cup game as well.

Gilmour expressed his relationship with his teammates and claimed how keen he is to grab every single opportunity he will get.

“I’ve enjoyed my own pathway,” Gilmour told Chelsea’s official website. “Of course, I need to get more first-team experience but I’m still young, I’m still learning and there’s plenty of time for that.

“I just work hard every day in training and try to take my opportunities. I love being around the boys, I love training with the team and I love working with the gaffer so hopefully, that just continues.”

The Scotland international said how difficult time was after he was operated on. It was the worst nightmare of his life he exclaimed but said that he is totally fine now.

“It was difficult. After having the operation, I just missed football so much and wanted to get back as quickly as possible. I’d never had that time away from it before and especially during the lockdown, I couldn’t really do anything,” he added.

“I had just moved into my own place and you want to do stuff around the house but you can’t when you’ve only got one leg and you’re hopping around on crutches.”

“It was the worst feeling ever but the physios really helped me a lot to get my leg and knee stronger. I still need to keep on top of the exercises to make sure the knee stays mobile and strong but it’s completely fine now.”

Gilmour knows that in order to be a regular starter, he needs to keep up his best form on a consistent basis.
