Chelsea has announced that centre-back Benoit Badiashile will be out for an extended period due to a torn hamstring.
The 22-year-old may require surgery and is likely to miss the club’s pre-season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Badiashile has made a huge impact in defence, despite playing only 11 games since joining in January. However, Chelsea has options to fill the void, including Levi Colwill, who is set to return from a loan spell at Brighton Hove Albion.
Colwill has played a key role in Brighton’s qualification for the Europa League and is ready for the next step in his career.
The club has revealed the length of Badiashile’s injury and expressed optimism for his return, highlighting his potential as a world-class defender. As reported by the Daily Mail, the club statement read:
“Benoit Badiashile has sustained a hamstring injury, which will rule the defender out for an extended period. The 22-year-old underwent assessment with specialists earlier this week, and Benoit will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department.”
While injuries have plagued Chelsea, they have depth in defence, and the focus is on Badiashile’s full recovery before his return to action.
Chelsea has faced numerous injury setbacks, with many key players frequently sidelined. Despite playing fewer games this season, Badiashile’s impressive performances in defence would have been valuable in preparing for the upcoming season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
However, it is now likely that he will miss several matches next season, including pre-season. As the current season is nearing its end, Badiashile won’t have the opportunity to regain fitness during the break.
It is preferred that he fully recovers before making a return to action.
