Recent speculation indicates that Portuguese footballing giants Benfica have been offered the chance to sign Chelsea FC outcast Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian international’s future in the Blues’ first-team squad is seemingly over beyond this summer after falling down the pecking order at the club last season.
Batshuayi could present himself to be a great attacking addition to the Benfica frontline that missed out signing Edinson Cavani in this summer’s transfer window. The former Paris Saint-German striker was heavily tipped to sign for the Liga Nos outfit, however, the move collapsed due to the Uruguayan international’s high salary demands.
Frank Lampard is keen on selling Batshuayi this summer as the Chelsea FC boss aims to raise funds for his future spending spree in the transfer market. Moreover, with the arrival of Timo Werner, Batshuayi’s minutes on the pitch for the Blues were expected to decrease even further next season.
The Belgian forward’s attacking talent had been acknowledged during his loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Crystal Palace, where Batshuayi did manage to make a good impression upon the Chelsea FC supporters and staked his claim to be a future star for the Blues.
However, across the 2019-20 season for Frank Lampard’s side, 19 of the 24 appearances made by the 26-year old were from the bench. Batshuayi failed to displace either one of the duo of Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham to claim a spot in the Blues’ starting XI.
