Ben Chilwell’s Chelsea Future In Question Amid Injury Concerns

The Athletic claims that Chelsea is considering cashing out their deputy captain, Ben Chilwell, if a good deal comes by.

Having joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020 for £50 million, Chilwell formed an integral part of the team and played his part in the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup triumphs.

But now his persistent injuries, hang a question mark on his future at Stamford Bridge.

Fitness has been an issue for Chilwell, even when one considers his talent.

He played only 21 times last season due to a hamstring problem, one of many issues.

Since his ACL injury in November 2021, Chilwell has spent 268 days out due to eight different injuries, as per Transfermarkt.

These persistent issues have prevented him from consistently performing at the level expected of one of the Premier League’s top left-backs.

Chilwell’s future at Chelsea is now uncertain since Maresca arrived.

The tactics of Maresca are differing with Chilwell’s style of play.

Manchester United is already preparing an offer to buy the Chelsea left-back.

Even though he still has three years remaining on his contract, Chelsea is willing to listen to and evaluate any offer due to his high cost to the club.

This will grant them greater financial flexibility as it could possibly help in the search for a replacement.

Off the pitch, Chilwell plays a big leadership role; with him being one of the older and more experienced members of a young squad, his place in Chelsea’s leadership is very important.

His experience from Chelsea’s trophy-winning seasons was invaluable, especially as this team is undergoing transition under new management.

However, his recurring injuries, combined with his high wage packet, put a question mark next to his future with Chelsea who now needs to balance its books and invest into younger and more reliable talent.

Now, with Marc Cucurella being off-duty due to a well-deserved rest after Euro 2024, Chilwell will have the chance to really prove himself in pre-season.

This is Chilwell’s best opportunity to shine and impress the new manager.

A good pre-season could really set his tone inside the team and convince management that his value isn’t entirely weighed against his injury history.

Ben Chilwell has always been one of Chelsea’s major players, and he is currently suffering from some chronic injuries, with a huge salary demanding that puts a question mark over his future.

The Blues will not hesitate to sell him if the right offer comes.

For Chilwell, pre-season is very important to prove form so he can nail down a place in the team.
