Ben Chilwell is relishing his extended run of first-team football for Chelsea with the full-back admitting it was frustrating for him to sit on the sidelines early on in this new campaign.
The England international had been forced to play second fiddle to Macros Alonso in the left wing-back role for Thomas Tuchel’s side with Alonso putting up a run of stellar form on all fronts.
Chilwell’s return to the team sheet has been followed up by a series of brilliant showings from the former Leicester City man on both the defensive as well as the attacking front.
He has found the back of the net three times in just four league outings with his form key to Chelsea’s displays which sees them sit at the summit of the Premier League table, three points adrift of the second-placed Liverpool.
Speaking in the pre-match presser ahead of Chelsea playing Malmo in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Chilwell revealed that being frozen out of the first-team plans for the opening period of the season had been a testing time for him.
“It was obviously frustrating.”
“When you have a squad like we do at Chelsea with 25 world class players to have to understand you aren’t going to play every match, you support the group, train hard and take your chance when you’re ready.”
