Putting an end to months of negotiations, Chelsea FC are set to secure the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City in the coming days, according to reports.
The 23-year old left-back is expected to have his medical at the west London club shortly, speculation indicates. The English international had spent the latter part of last season on the sidelines owing to a heel injury.
Reports suggest that Frank Lampard’s side will sign the English international for a transfer fee in the region of £50 million. The fee agreed upon between the two Premier League clubs is far from Leicester City’s initial valuation of £80 million for their star full-back.
However, it is believed that the Foxes’ inability to secure Champions League football for the upcoming season meant that Chelsea FC held the upper hand in the long-drawn negotiations. Also, the fund obtained by Brendan Rodger’s side following Chilwell’s sale would be used by the club to finance their transfer business ahead of next season.
Chilwell had been understood to be Lampard’s preferred signing at left-back in this summer’s transfer window. The Blues coach had targeted other alternatives to the Foxes’ man such as Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, however, remain focused on making the 23-year old’s move possible to Stamford Bridge.
