According to journalist Patrick Berger, German giants Bayern Munich are monitoring the progress of Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen at Borussia Dortmund.
The 22-year-old defender Ian Maatsen was part of the Blues’ preseason squad and he impressed the fans with his quick play. However, he started in just three games for Mauricio Pochettino’s side before being loaned out to Dortmund in January.
Since then the Dutch star has played 11 games for BVB. He has scored a goal and provided a couple of assists for his present club. Dortmund has won 10 of those games in which Maatsen has played.
Bayern are said to be interested in the left-back and is keeping an eye on his progress until the end of the season. Dortmund will be unable to sign him permanently due to financial reasons.

Maatsen has a £35m release clause in his Chelsea contract but the Bundesliga side didn’t include a buy option in the deal. This means that the youngster will be gearing up to return to Stamford Bridge next season.
Bayern are aware of this clause and could be open to meeting the Blues’ demands. The Bavarian giants have faced huge backlash for their poor performance in the Bundesliga this term.
They are already on the verge of losing their 12-year title-winning streak to Bayer Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso’s side has run a rampage in Germany and they are clear favourites to lift the trophy.
Hence, Bayern are looking to present a serious title challenge next season by signing quality players. Chelsea will be ready to listen to offers and they would be more than happy if they get their desired fee for the defender.

However, we believe that shelling out £35m for a player who has just one year of top-flight experience is not a wise decision. Bayern are known to make cost-effective moves and this won’t fit their plans.
The Blues might be the happiest side if they get their desired sum for Ian Maatsen. There is no guarantee that the Dutchman might secure regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge once he returns.
There is a realistic chance that the club might listen to offers and be ready for negotiations if any potential suitor approaches them.
