Bayern Munich chief Jan-Christian Dreesen has confirmed that Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa wanted a move to Real Madrid over the Bavarian giants.
Kepa is in line to sign for the Spanish giants Real in the coming days with the Spanish shot stopper – who is the most expensive goalkeeper in history – set for a return to his homeland to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Bundesliga champions Bayern were in the mix for the Blues goalie, admitted the German club’s CEO Dreesen (as quoted by Metro), but the former Athletic Bilbao man opted to make the switch to the Spanish capital city.
‘We are trying to work on getting a second goalkeeper. Yesterday we were quite close [to signing someone], we wanted to present Kepa, the Chelsea goalkeeper, today.
‘But he has chosen to join Real Madrid. He is Spanish and so he wanted to accept Real’s proposal.
‘There are other possibilities, I don’t want to say too much about it, but we’ll find a good solution.’
Chelsea, meanwhile, have decided to allow Kepa to leave the Bridge on a loan move this summer and are now looking for a new number two to play backup to their new recruit Robert Sanchez.
Sanchez arrived earlier in the summer window from Brighton and there had been the expectation, voiced by Mauricio Pochettino, that the former and Kepa will compete for the starting berth on the team sheet.
