Barcelona is reportedly interested in signing Chelsea winger Willian when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Chelsea had rebuffed a £40million offer for the star from Barcelona, with negotiations even reaching a £60million valuation before collapsing. But Barcelona can bag the Brazil international for free in the summer with manager Ernesto Valverde reportedly keen.
Barcelona in recent transfer windows has signed players in their 30’s to boost their squad depth with Kevin Prince Boateng and Arturo Vidal recent examples of players in their 30’s. With Barcelona moving on Malcolm to Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg and the Neymar transfer failing to materialize Barcelona have a spot in the squad for Willian, however, Barcelona might move for Neymar again in the January transfer window or the summer transfer window.
The 31-year-old is unlikely to be offered a long term contract at Chelsea with the club having a policy of not giving players over 30 contracts for more than a year. David Luiz was made an exception to the rule when he signed a two-year contract at the club despite being 32 years old only to see him leave for London rivals Arsenal this summer in a deal worth 7 million pounds.
Willian is enjoying a good run of games recently, starting Chelsea’s last four Premier League and Champions League fixtures and he was on the scoresheet in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Brighton last Saturday.
