Serie A giants and surprise Champions League quarter-finalists this season Atalanta have enquired about the possibility of signing Michy Batshuayi in this summer’s transfer window.
The Italian side are hoping to sign the Belgian international as a direct replacement for Columbian forward Duvan Zapata, whose future at the club is highly uncertain ahead of the upcoming season.
Batshuayi has been widely expected to exit Stamford Bridge this summer after his limited first-team involvement last season. Moreover, following Chelsea FC’s acquisition of Timo Werner last month, the 26-year old Belgian forward fell further down the pecking order at the west London club.
Atalanta will table a loan-to-buy offer for Batshuayi to Chelsea FC in the coming days, according to reports. The Italian side were on top form across their 2019-20 season, both domestically as well as in the Champions League.
However, the absence of star attacker Josip Iličić in Atalanta’s quarter-final fixture against Paris Saint-Germain cost the Serie A outfit dearly. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Ligue 1 champions despite taking the lead in the first half.
