Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a shock move for Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku who is all but certain to leave Stamford Bridge in this summer’s transfer window.
The Belgium international is currently on loan at Inter Milan from Chelsea but the San Siro outfit have decided against making his transfer permanent following Lukaku’s recurring injury troubles during his second spell with Inter.
According to a report from the Spanish publication Todo Fichajes, it is claimed that Premier League side Aston Villa are weighing up a move for the 29-year-old Lukaku with Chelsea expected to give the nod for his exit come the summer.
The Blues are out to rebuild their squad before the next season gets underway and Graham Potter is likely to prioritise trimming down his roster by offloading Lukaku who has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly.
Boehly wants to provide Potter with a new No.9 to bolster a misfiring front line and should Chelsea make Joao Felix’s loan move permanent this summer, Lukaku could be one of the first names heading out the exit door at the Bridge.
