The race to sign ex-Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has started to heat up with Chelsea being joined by Premier League sides Aston Villa and Arsenal for the player’s signature this summer.
Reports from the Daily Mail claim that Bettinelli is a target for Dean Smith’s Midlanders as well with Chelsea’s city rivals Arsenal also joining the fray for the free-agent shot-stopper.
Thomas Tuchel has been heavily backed to bring in a new goalkeeper for his first-team ranks after the departure of Willy Caballero from Stamford Bridge which means that the Chelsea boss is without a third-choice goalie ahead of the start of the next season.
The 29-year-old Bettinelli, who was contracted to Craven Cottage outfit Fulham until the end of the last season, played for Middlesbrough on a season-long loan across the 2020-21 campaign before being released by Fulham upon the onset of this summer’s transfer window.
Chelsea’s desire to land the player’s signature is claimed to be fought by Aston Villa who remain on the hunt for their third-choice goalkeeping option themselves this summer with Dean Smith keeping tabs on Bettinelli’s situation.
