It was a convincing Boxing Day Premier League win for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side who made the travels to Villa Park on Sunday.

The home side were the more assertive going forward as Chelsea relied on veteran defensive star Thiago Silva to step in and keep in check the Villa frontline.

Mason Mount nearly found the opener for his side when the England international tested Villa stopper Emi Martinez only for the ball to hit the top of the crossbar.

On the other end of the pitch, Reece James was forced into an own goal when the wing-back bundled in Matt Targett’s cross past Edouard Mendy to hand Villa the advantage.

Tuchel’s men, however, were granted a respite when Matty Cash brought down Callum Hudson-Odoi in the box allowing Jorginho to find the back of the net from the spot to level the scoreline.

Chelsea started strong in the opening minutes of the second period and substitute Romelu Lukaku scored from a header after Hudson-Odoi had put in a sublime delivery for the Belgian striker.

Mount could have doubled Chelsea’s lead but the playmaker was unable to keep his effort on target while Martinez denied Hudson-Odoi with a good stop to keep his team in the reckoning.

Jorginho added to his tally in the dying embers with the Italian midfielder on target once again from the spot with Lukaku winning the penalty under Ezri Konsa’s challenge.
