Ashley Cole passes verdict on Christian Pulisic’s FA Cup showing on Sunday

Christian Pulisic came under a lavish show of praise from ex-England and Chelsea defender Ashley Cole following the forward’s impressive showing in the FA Cup quarter-final clash over the past weekend.

Thomas Tuchel’s west Londoners advanced to the semi-finals of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win over Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge and Pulisic’s recall into the XI was followed up by a plaudit worthy display from the young American.

Speaking in the aftermath of the game, as reported by Metro, Cole said that injuries had affected the ability of the former Borussia Dortmund man and the weekend showing for the Blues could prove to be a turning point for the 22-year-old who has found himself on the fringes of Thomas Tuchel’s first-team ranks of late.

‘Last season he was very influential and a big player for Chelsea, he had that injury and it’s stifled him a bit and he’s in and out of the team at the moment,’ Cole said.

‘Today’s performance was good, maybe should’ve scored a goal. But I think he will be pleased with that after all.’

The Blues have been upbeat since Tuchel took charge in late January and with results going their way, the Stamford Bridge outfit harbour rich ambitions of clinching silverware this season.

Progress into the FA Cup semi-finals has been supplemented with a spot int the last eight of the UEFA Champions League besides an increasingly high possibility of securing a top-four finish in the top-flight ladder ahead of rival clubs West Ham United and Liverpool.
