Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira not impressed by Antonio Rudiger’s Euros displays

Antonio Rudiger’s showings at the ongoing UEFA European Championships for Germany have not gone down well with Arsenal icon Patrick Vieira who claims that the Chelsea man has made too many poor decisions whilst on the pitch.

Germany recently won their latest group stage fixture against Portugal in what was a 4-2 scoreline enjoyed by the 2014 FIFA World Cup winners in a win that was clinched mostly due to Portugal’s defensive frailties.

Rudiger had been a solid performer at the back for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea this past season on course to be crowned the Champions of Europe but the centre-back has been unable to replicate his club form for his country at the big stage.

The 28-year-old defender is one name in the Stamford Bridge camp whose future remains shrouded with uncertainty as he is yet to agree upon an extended deal with the Blues amid interest shown in him by Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking to ITV, the former Gunners star midfielder Vieira voiced his concerns over Rudiger’s form of late for Germany with the Frenchman saying that the Blues first-teamer lacked smartness at certain stages of the game which put his side in danger.

“You need two around [Mats Hummels] to give him more protection,” said Vieira as quoted by The Sun.

“But I don’t know if Rudiger is the type of player that you can count on, he’s not the smartest one.

“Sometimes he makes a poor decision that gives his team-mates big big problems.

“We saw the goals that Germany conceded against France he can do silly things… the bite on Pogba – he’s somebody that can lose his head in any moment during a game.

“I think Hummels is not the quickest one but he’s really smart and uses his brain to try to defend well, but it’s going to be tough at this level for him.”
