Chelsea striker Armando Broja has shared the amazing story that led to his switch from rival club Tottenham to the Blues.
While on loan at Southampton in the Premier League last year, the 21-year-old made an impression, scoring six goals in 32 games.
Due to this, the Albanian international has been given an opportunity at Stamford Bridge this season and has already appeared in six games in all competitions.
After spending two years in the Spurs academy, Broja joined the west London club in 2009 and made his Blues debut the following year (2019–20). He recently signed a new six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, extending his stay there until 2028.
In an interview with The Players’ Tribune, Broja revealed how he was initially hesitant to join Tottenham as he had no clue about the North London-based club
“I was at Burnham Juniors, the club I was first at and I remember going to a tournament. The Tottenham scout actually came to watch another boy. I happened to play well in that tournament, I got top goalscorer and best player.”
“They approached my mum and dad before I even knew about it so when I came back, my mum and dad said; ‘Tottenham came over to us’. I was just thinking, ‘Who’s Tottenham?’. Because I was quite young, I only knew my Sunday league team [and Chelsea].”
Despite not having made a single start for Chelsea so far this year, Broja is positioned to be a key part of the Blues’ success. The Albanian is prepared to up his game now that Graham Potter is in the dugout.
For Chelsea supporters, it all seems like a fantasy. Take one of their rivals’ top players, turn him into your own, and use him in your starting lineup before he says this.
However, after watching the footage, it appears that Broja will have a successful and lengthy career at Stamford Bridge.
