Antonio Rudiger believes not seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge earlier this year in the January transfer window has worked out best for him following Chelsea being crowned the Champions League winners this past weekend.
The German defender was in top form during the final against Manchester City with Rudiger finishing the season on a high note with a Champions League winners medal to his name.
He had come close to leaving the Blues after falling down the pecking order back when Frank Lampard was in charge and had considered a move to Tottenham Hotspurs and Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Rudiger, however, has now claimed that in hindsight it was the right decision made by him to extend his stay in the Chelsea colours as he said that Saturday’s events in Porto made it the best day for him in his life.
“It will take a day or two before it sinks in,” Rudiger said in an interview with Sport1
“It was the greatest day of my football career. No matter what happens in the years to come, I’ll never forget Porto.
“I’m happy that everything turned out like this at Chelsea. Looking back, it was my best possible decision. And now I’ll try to take my Chelsea form into Euro 2020.”
