Andreas Christensen to be sidelined for Manchester City clash with COVID-19 with the centre-back joining Chelsea’s increasing injury list.
Thomas Tuchel has been dealt yet another headache for his depleted defensive roster as his star first-team regular at the back in Christensen will sit out Saturday’s league game away at the defending champions of the land.
The Chelsea boss is already without the likes of Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah for the trip to the Etihad Stadium and Tuchel confirmed in his pre-match presser that Christensen had registered a positive test for COVID-19.
“No news which is good news. Trevoh will be out, Reece James out, Ben Chilwell out.
“We have one new positive Covid test with Andreas Christensen so he will be out of the game.”
Christensen, one of the influential figures in the defensive lineup for Tuchel’s west London heavyweights, will now enter a period of isolation with his coach hoping that his first-team defensive talent stages a return to on-field action sooner rather than later.
Thiago Silva, however, will be in line for a starting berth on the team sheet following his recent COVID-19 enforced absence as the veteran Brazilian defender came off the bench to feature in the 1-0 win away at Spurs earlier this week.
