Premier League legend, Alan Shearer is of the opinion that Chelsea must take their 1-0 loss vs Everton with a pinch of salt and look forward to their following game in the Premier League.
The former forward of Newcastle United suggested that the fixtures go on in a flash in these periods and lingering the defeat in the minds may prevent them to focus in their following games.
Shearer also gave enough credit to Carlos Ancelotti’s side saying that Everton had a far more impressive performance in terms of tactics and energy level. He said that even if the game would have been gone for more than two hours, the Blues would definitely not score a goal still.
“Their [Everton’s] closing down was really impressive. Whenever anyone was on the ball for Chelsea, they have closed down straight away and didn’t have any space. I thought Everton were brilliant,” said Shearer as per the Sportskeeda reports.
“It was just one of those days. They could have been there, I thought, for another two or three hours and they wouldn’t have scored. You’ve just got to forget that and move on to the next game.”
Everton welcomed Chelsea to their stadium and ended their 17-game unbeaten streak. The only goal of the match came when Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy tackled Dominic Calvert-Lewin in his own penalty box from which Gylfi Sigurdsson calmly converted into the net.
Lampard’s men tried to bounce back to make a comeback in the game but were unable to break the Everton defence. Their defenders closed down the Blues’ attackers upfront, prevented any slightest of chances to counter-attack and cleared all the long balls away from their box.
Chelsea will face the Wolves in their next game and the Blues must come back to winning terms in order to remain in the top five.
