As reported by Tuttomercato, Italian giants AC Milan have reignited their interest in want-away Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech.
Tottenham reportedly came close to signing the Moroccan superstar during the summer transfer window, prompting AC Milan to rekindle their interest in the former Ajax attacker.
The out-of-favour Chelsea winger is thought to be Milan’s top target as Ziyech looks to leave west London in 2023 after a less-than-impressive career at Stamford Bridge. The Italian powerhouses are eager to bolster their attacking options in the January market.
Chelsea paid £33 million to acquire the winger from Ajax back in 2020. While the African star has occasionally played well for the blues, the playmaker has generally been out of form and an inconsistent starter for the Premier League giants.
The 29-year-old wanted to leave the blues in the summer and Tottenham and Ajax were both interested in signing him. But it appears as though Milan will be the ones to sign the winger in January.
Indeed, Milan wants to win both the Serie A championship and the UEFA Champions League this season. If they can work out a deal with Chelsea, who will undoubtedly demand a respectable fee for the winger, Ziyech’s arrival in January could help the Rossoneri succeed in succeeding in both competitions.
If the winger pushes hard enough in January, Milan might find themselves a bargain for the Moroccan, but a deal could be painful for Tottenham given how effective the playmaker could be for the Italian giants.
Ziyech is the latest player angling for a move from Chelsea, whose pool of talented players appears to have run its course.
Although a move to Tottenham would have been exciting, Ziyech is much better off moving to Italy with the European giants than making the London move to a Premier League rival. After all, the winger will bring a lot of quality that Milan is currently lacking in the final third.
