Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has downplayed his injury after he was taken off on a stretcher in Chelsea’s Champions League draw at Valencia.
The England international striker clashed with Argentinian center-back Ezequiel Garay, jumping for a corner and landing badly on top of his opponent’s feet. Abraham got up, holding his side, though at the time he was substituted it was unclear whether he’d suffered a knock to his hip or rib.
The 22-year-old initially looked to walk off the pitch, but ultimately had to be stretchered away.
Frank Lampard is hopeful the hip injury is not as serious as initially feared and dismissed talks that Abraham was taken to a hospital.
And Abraham has now played down fears he had suffered a serious problem, telling BT Sport: ‘It’s much better. At the time I was fearful of the worst.
‘I got in and was able to walk again, move about, so I’m thankful and hopefully it’s not too long.
‘I hope so [bruising]. I’ll have a scan or x-ray tomorrow to see what the news is but hopefully, it is just bruising. It was a knee to my hip area, so hopefully, it’s nothing too serious.’
Chelsea took a step towards the Champions League knockout stages after coming away from the Mestalla with a 2-2 draw on Wednesday evening.
Frank Lampard’s men looked on course for victory as Christian Pulisic prodded them ahead and Kepa saved Daniel Parejo’s penalty, but Daniel Wass popped up with a fortuitous late equalizer for the hosts.
Abraham has been crucial to Chelsea’s early-season success under Frank Lampard.
He has bagged 10 goals in just 13 Premier League games with the Blues establishing themselves in the top four early in the campaign.
