Chelsea’s signed left-back Ben Chilwell at £50 million ($65m) from League rivals, Leicester City. In a recent interview, the player having joined Chelsea spoke about how hard it was to leave his former club this summer. He also addressed that he is now determined to build new friendships at his new club.
The 23-year-old defender talked to the media after playing his debut match against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup which they lost 5-4 on penalties. He spoke about making the decision to leave his club that he joined 11 years ago and where he developed as a player as well as made recognition in the game.
Chilwell got the blessing of manager Brendan Rodgers when the deal with Chelsea was confirmed. The left-back described how emotional he got when he decided to take the exit from the King Power Stadium for the first time in his life.
James Maddison, one of Chilwell’s best buddies in football posted a heartfelt video of the pair together at the King Power Stadium which covered all the beautiful moments spent together.
“I did feel emotional, yes,” Chilwell said as per football.london news.
“It was quite funny because when he posted it; I think I actually got more messages from that video than I did on the actual move itself. It went down quite well, didn’t it?
“But, we still keep in contact, we talk most days. Just about general things, how he is doing and how I am doing. He knows it is what’s best for my career and there’s no one happier than him. We are still good friends and we will continue to be,” he added.
Chilwell seems to have fit in the squad quite well with his confident personality and is said to have built a bond with the fellow attacker, Hakim Ziyech. Moreover, he has his national team’s friends -Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, so it’s not hard at all for him.
