Ruben Loftus-Cheek may take an exit from Chelsea in search of more game time

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to go out of Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan before the transfer deadline in October. Coach, Frank Lampard wants to offload players, especially in the midfield area after the huge summer signing. Chelsea’s midfield is packed with players amongst which is Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Ruben featured in Chelsea’s season opener against Brighton but was substituted in the 6oth minute of the game. He didn’t get the opportunity to feature in any of the games against Liverpool or even in the West Brom match.

As per speculation, Aston Villa, West Ham, and Southampton are keen to sign in the English midfielder.

Loftus-Cheek was a regular starter in Lampard’s previous season, having played 40 games in total. He moved to Stamford Bridge after impressing in Crystal Palace jersey where he was on a loan in the 2017-18 season.

But recent injuries have kept him away from football and since then, he has moved down the pecking order. In his short spells, he has failed to impress the Blues’ coach further.  Despite that, Lampard admits him to be a versatile midfielder and talks highly of him.

“I’m very open with Ruben and we’ve had a couple of conversations over the past week.”

“He’s fit as a fiddle and can play week in, week out,” Lampard said to Sky Sports.

The coach is aware of the situation he is right now and wants to make a decision that profits both the player and the club.

“He would have been playing games earlier if it wasn’t for the lockdown and restart. But there’s a possibility Ruben may go out to play games.

“We hold him in high regard here but that could be a good option for him. If not he’ll be competitive in this squad as well because of the quality he has.

“Hopefully that will be a big plus for us. I’m relaxed about it but I want to find the best path for Ruben and the best path for us. We’ll see over the next week,” said Lampard.

Lampard has brought seven new faces in his team and is aware that he needs to offload some players for their sake and also to balance the books.
