Thiago Silva says how his perspective about the English Premier League changed over time

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva admits of never really seeing himself in the Premier League before. He considered the football style in Premier League to be difficult.

‘I saw it as a difficult style of football personally. I didn’t have any desire to play in the Premier League.”

The defender talks about his football style which doesn’t suit him, that is, long balls, high balls, and long shots. But gradually he seemed to start liking the football in England while in Paris.

“I thought at the time that I couldn’t see myself playing in that championship but over time, I have seen that the championship has developed tremendously, there’s a lot more technical quality,” Silva admits.

The former PSG man is impressed with how things have changed gradually. He sees numerous teams playing with ball possessions and through-passes a lot. Teams nowadays use their fullbacks to their full potential in attacks as well as in defence.

Earlier, the long ball characteristics by the English Premier League teams were disliked by the Brazil International. He expresses his preference to play with the ball on the ground rather than playing with long crosses. But over time, the change of playing style of teams has won him over. This made his mind to join one of the best leagues in the world at the age of 35.

‘This is usually a league of young players but I am coming here as an older player and I see it as because Frank Lampard and Chelsea want a player of my experience.’ he said.

The Chelsea boss will have the expectation from the defender and will hope Silva’s leadership will inject confidence and discipline in the Chelse’s defending.

Thiago is yet to make his debut for his new club. He arrived this summer from Paris at Stamford Bridge although he had the option to to extend his stay at his former club. Lampard’s proposition made Silva take on a new challenge with the Blues so he joined them on a free transfer.
