Chelsea’s coaching staff and Petr Cech aren’t the only one who influences Frank Lampard’s management. Lampard consults his wife, Christine over players’ ‘life issues’.
Christine is a high-profile TV presenter, currently appearing on ITV’s Loose Women. She married Lampard in the year 2015 during his brief Manchester City spell.
Lampard took on his first Premier League season in only his second term as a manager in 2019-20, impressing under the Stamford Bridge pressure. His squad finished the fourth position and reached the FA Cup final despite the transfer ban.
The club legend is continuing to learn quickly in the dugout and has experience playing under some of the world’s top coaches to bounce back when low. But Lampard has revealed his wife Christine being instrumental in decisions and is a crucial sounding board for his man-management.
‘I do throw a lot of things off Christine,’ the legendary former midfielder said.
Lampard jokes that his wife won’t take decisions regarding picking up of full-backs Chelsea is going to play. But he admits that if he has football issues that are certain to occur and revolves around lives, he can definitely go home.
‘I go, “Christine, what do you think about this problem: I’ve got a player here and he didn’t turn up for training yesterday. But we still probably need him on the weekend, what do you think?”
‘And she goes: “Does he have a girlfriend, a wife? Is there a problem? Have you spoken to them? Maybe you should speak to them.”
He says that although she is not his life coach as such, he is extremely fortunate to have someone to bounce things off of at his home. His wife is his strength.
