Chelsea is moving closer to sign a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga. Their current prime target is Rennes’ goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy. This came after the Blues got their offers rejected for AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.
Buying the Senegalese keeper will also give competition to the inconsistent Kepa for the No.1 spot of the Goalkeeper. Lampard thinks that it will eventually help in the keepers’ improvement.
The Ligue 1 club was not ready to listen to the Chelsea offers. They were desperate to keep Mendy for the current ongoing season. They rejected Chelsea’s bid and was very vocal of Mendy being untransferrable.
This situation changed when the Senegal International Keeper wanted to move to Chelsea. This made the Ligue 1 club to find for a potential replacement in place for him.
The reports suggested that they have already made contact with PSG’s Alphonso Areola to replace Chelsea’s prime target.
Areola has given the green signal to join as he has fallen down the order for the No.1 spot that is currently held by Keylor Navas
Mendy is also hopeful to join the Stamford Bridge and start his new campaign for Chelsea. Undoubtedly, Kepa needs to pick up his form, or else it will be just a matter of time before Mendy will take the position between the sticks.
