Chelsea FC’s priority signing at goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, has signed on to a five-year contract extension at Old Trafford with an option to extend for a further year. The Manchester United shot-stopper’s future at the club had been uncertain amid rumors of the Blues being keen on signing him.
After his brilliant run of form on loan at Sheffield United last season, there had been a great deal of speculation regarding Henderson’s next club. At Manchester United, the 23-year old would have to displace David de Gea as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred choice in goal.
The Blues, aiming to sign a new goalkeeper this summer to replace the out-of-favor Kepa, had identified Henderson as a major transfer target. Reports had suggested that Frank Lampard’s side were even willing to double the goalkeeper’s wages to lure him to moving to Stamford Bridge.
However, it seems as if Henderson will compete against De Gea next season with the Englishman having agreed upon extended terms at Manchester United. De Gea’s showings of late have not been the most convincing ones to stake his claim as a regular starter under Solskjaer.
Frank Lampard, on the other hand, will turn to other alternatives in order to find a suitable competitor for Kepa. The Spaniard is unlikely to be the Blues’ first-choice No.1 heading into the 2020-21 season, according to reports.
