Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva remains keen on sealing a move to Stamford Bridge following the expiry of his contact with the Ligue 1 champions, according to reports.
The veteran Brazilian defender’s current PSG deal comes to an end following the French club finishing their Champions League commitments over the weekend. PSG have booked a Champions League final clash with Bayern Munich, and Silva is hoping that his glittering career with the Ligue 1 giants finishes with him tasting European glory.
Recent rumors had arisen linking the Blues with a shock move for the 35-year old center-back this summer. The ex-AC Milan defender will be available for free if Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard does go ahead and make a formal approach for Silva.
The Chelsea FC backline is in need of urgent reinforcements ahead of the upcoming 2020-21 season for Frank Lampard’s men. The 2019-20 season has been riddled with defensive frailties on part of the Blues first-team squad.
Despite Silva turning 36 next month, it is understood that Lampard feels signing the PSG skipper would be an upgrade over his existing center-back options. Moreover, the west London club would be able to secure Silva’s signing on a free transfer, sparing Lampard the need to shell out an exorbitant fee to land a quality addition to the Chelsea FC squad this summer.
