Chelsea FC ace Willian is facing a likely exit from the club this summer after rejecting a two-year contract extension. The 31-year old attacker’s current deal with Frank Lampard’s side expires at the end of the current season. However, contractual negotiations between Chelsea FC and the player have not been able to reach a consensus.
The Brazilian international remains adamant about being offered a contract extension that would prolong his seven-year stint at Stamford Bridge further by three years. However, the Blues are fixated on handing a two-year deal to the attacker ahead of next season.
The disagreement in the length of the contract terms between the two parties is due to the club’s one-year contract renewal for players who have crossed the age of 30. In Willian’s case, however, Chelsea FC have decided to offer a two-year contract extension to the 31-year old.
However, the player is unwilling to be tied down to the West London based outfit for the next two seasons. Willian remains keen on being offered a three-year deal by Frank Lampard’s side. As a result, the Chelsea FC star is edging closer to a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
According to recent reports, Arsenal are in pole position to secure Willian’s services should the attacker leave the Blues. Mikel Arteta’s side have even initiated talks with the Brazilian international’s representatives over a potential move for the player to the North London club this summer.
The 31-year old winger’s agent Kia Joorabchian confirmed speculation that there is interest from as many as five clubs in signing his client ahead of next season. Joorabchian also stated that there is one club from the Major League Soccer too eyeing a move for Willian. FC Barcelona and Inter Milan too are reported to be in the fray to sign the Brazillian.
But with the Blues attacker having been settled in London for the past seven years, a move to a different country does not seem likely for the 31-year old Willian. Instead, it is understood that the player will prefer to sign for the Gunners following his Chelsea FC exit.
