Olivier Giroud has stated his desire of staying at Chelsea FC beyond the current season. The 2019-20 season for the Blues will conclude following Saturday’s FA Cup final clash against Giroud’s former side Arsenal. The French striker’s future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of great speculation over the past few months.
It had been revealed not long ago that it was due to the friendship between Chelsea FC director Marina Granovskaia and the Frenchman’s wife Jennifer Giroud that the 33-year old striker had stayed put at the Blues earlier this year. The World Cup-winning attacker was widely tipped to depart the Premier League side in January amid interest from Inter Milan.
However, Giroud’s extended stay has been a blessing in disguise for Frank Lampard’s side. The former Arsenal man has been in fantastic form since the Project Restart. With six goals in eight games, Giroud has displaced Tammy Abraham as the club’s first-choice striker once again.
And now, the French international has addressed rumours surrounding his future at the West London outfit in an interview. The 33-year old voiced his inclination of seeing out his current deal with the Blues, which runs until next season. Giroud still considers himself to be pivotal towards Chelsea FC’s Premier League title challenge next season.
The French international added that his former manager at Arsenal, the legendary Arsene Wenger had confided in Giroud that he saw the striker playing at the highest level up to 35 years of age. Giroud, however, did admit to the possibility of seeking a new challenge elsewhere if such a situation emerged.
The Chelsea FC forward also spoke about the club’s recent business in the transfer market, notably the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. According to Giroud, the addition of both players to the Blues squad this summer is a great step for the club.
Giroud also expressed his opinion on Werner possibly being Lampard’s new first-choice striker in the Blues lineup next season. The French international stated that he did not have any concerns about him warming the Chelsea FC bench. Moreover, the 33-year old added that he would perform better on the pitch to rival Werner’s spot in the squad.
