Chelsea FC will have to fend off competition from domestic rivals Manchester City to finalize the signing of Alex Telles. The Brazilian international has been an alternative option for the Blues if Ben Chilwell’s pursuit is proven unsuccessful.
Qualms over Leicester City’s asking price for Chilwell which is around £80 million means than Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard may attempt to sign Telles this summer. The 27-year old has been a fairly consistent performer for his current side, FC Porto. Moreover, great showings at the club level have led to the left-back earning his first national cap last year.
Frank Lampard remains determined to sign a left-back this summer to replace his current options at the club in the form of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri. Both fullbacks’ have been in torrid form throughout the 2019-20 season for the Blues. Lampard is hoping to hasten the departure of both Alonso and Emerson this summer to accommodate a new signing.
The 27-year old Telles’ current deal with FC Porto runs until 2021. However, the left-back does have a £36.4m release clause in his contract with the Portuguese league champions. Lampard could make use of that clause to sign the Brazilian international without having to worry about competing with other sides over Telles’ availability this summer.
The FC Porto star has been reported to have conveyed to the club’s management that he seeks a move to England to play in the Premier League. The Dragons are likely to relent to Telles’ demands, with the hopes of pocketing a significant amount of money on the 27-year old’s sale.
In the 31 games he has played for FC Porto in their league title-winning campaign this season, Telles has performed in an admirable manner for his side. Despite being a wing-back, the Brazilian international has found the back of the net 11 times. Moreover, Telles’ assist tally of eight also ranks quite high in the record charts of the 2019-20 Primeira Liga season.
