Chelsea FC could be among the several clubs looking to sign either Kalidou Koulibaly or Milan Skriniar this summer. The Blues manager Frank Lampard has been known to be on the hunt for a centre-back in the transfer market. However, a deal for either of the aforementioned Serie A star defenders would be an expensive one for Chelsea FC.
Skriniar has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a long time now. However, the Slovakian international has decided to stay put at Inter Milan despite interest from other top sides. But it is reported that the 25-year old would be open to the idea of playing in England next season.
Manchester United have always been considered the frontrunner in the race to sign the Inter Milan centre-back. However, Chelsea FC could hijack their Premier League rival’s transfer approach to sign Skriniar this summer. The Blues are in dire need of defensive reinforcements ahead of next season’s start.
The current Chelsea FC defence has been lambasted for their performances in recent games in the Premier League. Both first-team centre-back’s Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have come under fire for their poor showings at the back.
However, with Skriniar being contracted to Inter Milan until 2023, Chelsea FC would have to table a hefty offer to lure the Slovak with a move to Stamford Bridge.
As for Koulibaly, the Senegalese has been a long-term target for the Blues. Ex-Chelsea FC manager Maurizio Sarri’s attempts to sign his former Napoli star for the Blues had failed back in 2018.
The 29-year old has become one of the best centre-backs in the world with his performances for Napoli. Lampard would surely love to add a player of Koulibaly’s quality to his Chelsea FC squad this summer.
The Blues are not the only Premier League side to express interest in signing the Senegalese defender. Both Liverpool and Manchester United have been rumoured to have initiated talks with Napoli over a deal for Koulibaly.
Signing a new centre-back for his side, especially one of Skriniar or Koulibaly’s stature, would be an expensive affair for Chelsea FC. However, signing a quality defensive reinforcement seems to be a necessity for Frank Lampard’s side, considering the club’s aim of competing for Premier League glory next season.
