In what could be good news for Frank Lampard, Real Madrid have ruled out any major singings this summer. Such a move by the Spanish giants means that the Blues are in pole position to land the transfer of Kai Havertz. The German playmaker has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past few months.
Earlier reports had indicated Real Madrid’s interest in signing Havertz this summer to bolster their ageing midfield department. However, the Spanish club’s president Florentino Perez confirmed the Los Blancos’ inability to spend huge money this summer. The COVID-19 pandemic crisis has forced many football clubs to curb spending due to a decrease in monthly revenues.
Moreover, Bayern Munich too were believed to be keen on signing the 21-year old Havertz this summer. However, with the Bundesliga champions completing Leroy Sane’s transfer from Manchester City, Havertz’s signing was given less priority. Instead, it was reported that Bayern would look to sign the German talent next summer.
Now, it seems as if Havertz has chosen Chelsea FC to be his next destination. The chances of the player extending his stay at Bayer Leverkusen are very slim. Leverkusen’s inability to qualify for next season’s Champions League means that Havertz would not be extending his stay at the club.
The Blues, meanwhile, appear to be a fantastic side to join ahead of next season’s start. The Premier League club have been bolstered by the additions of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech in recent weeks. Moreover, Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard is eager on signing a world-class centre-back for his side this summer.
Also, the presence of Havertz’s German teammates Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger could influence the 21-year old in making the move to Stamford Bridge. Werner and Havertz have linked up in a wonderful manner for their national team in the past.
The Blues appear to be the sole club willing to meet Leverkusen’s demand of £90 million for the German international. In such a scenario, the Bundesliga side would be forced to let Havertz depart despite their reservations.
However, any deal for the 21-year old attacker would take place after Leverkysen’s Europa League campaign has concluded. The German side are scheduled to face Rangers FC in their Round of 16 tie on 6th August.
