Ralf Rangnick, who is set to be confirmed as the new AC Milan boss, wants to sign Chelsea FC outcast Tiemoue Bakayoko. The French midfielder has been the subject of interest from the Serie A side for quite some time now. Rangnick reportedly wants to make a number of big signings for his new side, and Bakayoko is one of them.
The 25-year old Frenchman had spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Milan, appearing in 31 games for them. His time in Italy had been a season of mixed fortunes while playing for the Rossoneri.
However, a subsequent loan stint at his former club AS Monaco went rather well for Bakayoko. The defensive midfielder performed exceptionally well in the Ligue 1, and played 20 games for AS Monaco, scoring once in the process.
However, Bakayoko has been unable to claim a spot in the Chelsea FC first-team spot. Since joining the Blues from AS Monaco in 2017, the French midfielder has turned out to be a flop showing for the west London based Premier League outfit. Since arriving at Stamford Bridge three years ago, the 25-year old has made just 29 appearances for the Blues.
Even under new Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard, Bakayoko’s future in the Blues shirt remains highly uncertain. Reports claim that Lampard would be looking to sell the Frenchman so that significant funds can be raised to finance the signing of long-term target Kai Havertz. Chelsea FC are rumored to have valued Bakayoko at €20 million.
With Bakayoko’s current deal with Chelsea FC running until 2022, the Blues are in a position to fetch a reasonable amount for the player’s sale. Moreover, Chelsea FC would be keen on selling the player on a permanent basis, rather than on another loan spell.
Besides AC Milan, few Premier League sides had also expressed interest in signing Bakayoko earlier. Newcastle United were rumored to be the frontrunners in the race to land the Frenchman’s signature. However, it is reported that the 25-year old midfielder would prefer joining Milan over Newcastle United.
