Chelsea FC have initiated negotiations with the representatives of Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Reports emerging from Italy indicate that the Blues are eager on signing Milinkovic-Savic this summer and will soon table a bid for the Serie A side to consider.
The 25-year old Milinkovic-Savic has been one of the most consistent performers in the Italian league over the past few years. The player has also become Lazio’s key component in the side’s title challenge to Serie A champions Juventus FC.
Milinkovic-Savic has established himself as a powerhouse of a midfielder for any team he plays for. His passing range and tackling ability have been hailed by many football pundits. The player is also an important part of the Serbian national team.
Frank Lampard would look to sign Milinkovic-Savic if Italian international Jorginho chooses to leave Chelsea FC in the summer. The midfielder has been constantly linked with a move to Juventus FC in recent months. New Juventus FC boss Maurizio Sarri is known to be keen on being reunited with Jorginho, a player he has managed on two occasions in the past.
The departure of Jorginho could make way for Savic to slot into the Chelsea FC midfield. The Serbian international would complement the presence of N’Golo Kante and Kovacic as the three-central midfielders of the Blues.
The Lazio star has made 35 appearances for the Serie A side this season across all competitions. Savic has been involved in six goals and five assists this season for his side.
The 25-year old Serbian has been rumored to leave Lazio for over two years now. However, Savic has chosen to stay put at the Italian side and had turned moves to AC Milan and Inter Milan last summer.
However, it is believed that the player may choose to make a switch this summer and prefers the Premier League to be his next destination. Besides Chelsea FC, Manchester United FC are also long-term suitors for Savic’s signature. The Red Devils have had an opening bid rejected from Lazio for Savic last summer.
Lazio are reported to value their star midfielder at a sum of £80 million. Such an enormous price-tag may not worry Frank Lampard considering the Chelsea FC manager’s recent spending in the transfer market.
