According to reports, Manchester United FC contract rebel Angel Gomes in edging closer to signing for Chelsea FC. The talented attacking midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of June. However, Manchester United FC manager Ole Gunnar Solkskjaer has been unsuccessful in his efforts to tie down Gomes to a new contract extending his stay at Old Trafford.
The 19-year old Gomes has come through the famed Manchester United FC academy. The player made history by becoming the first 16-year old to break into the Red Devils first-team since the 1950s. However, the future of Gomes at Old Trafford has looked uncertain for a long time with the player insisting on leaving the Premier League side.
Chelsea FC have emerged as the likely candidate for Gomes’s signature following the expiry of his Manchester United FC contract. Frank Lampard is believed to be an admirer of the English starlet and wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Lampard feels that Gomes would fit in much better with fellow English internationals like Reece James and Mason Mount.
With Gomes soon to become a free agent in the coming days, the 19-year old will be mulling over his next destination. Apart from the Blues, many top European sides have declared interest in signing the young midfielder. Valencia FC and Bundesliga side Hamburg are also being considered as the future destinations for Gomes’s career path.
However, it is believed that the Manchester United FC player is keen on staying in England only. As a result, the Blues have the advantage over other sides interested in signing Gomes. Moreover, the player’s agent Pini Zahavi could broker a deal with Chelsea FC.
Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had admitted to a roadblock in contractual negotiations between the Premier League side and Gomes’s representatives. The Norwegian manager had stated that he had no news regarding the future of the 19-year old at Old Trafford beyond the end of June.
