Frank Lampard is planning a move for Manchester United FC goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is on loan at Sheffield United. The 23-year old Henderson has been scintillating form this season for The Blades as their first-choice shot-stopper.
Lampard is willing to sign Henderson and give the axe to Blues record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Kepa has not been impressive this season for Chelsea FC due to inconsistency shown by the Spaniard. Moreover, the player has often been replaced by the ageing Willy Cabellero as the Blues goalkeeper.
Henderson is about to near the end of two brilliant seasons on loan at Sheffield United. The 23-year old has the second greatest number of clean sheets in 2019-20 Premier League season so far, with 10 to his name in the charts. Henderson has been tipped to rival Everton FC’s Jordan Pickford as England’s number 1 in the coming time.
There is uncertainty about Manchester United FC’s attempt to renew Henderson’s contract with the club. The goalkeeper would not be satisfied by serving as a backup to David de Gea at Old Trafford. De Gea’s form has dipped considerably over the past seasons.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on replacing De Gea with Henderson in due time. However, it does not seem as if the Spanish shot-stopper would be axed as soon as next season. There is also speculation of Henderson being loaned out to Sheffield for the 2020-21 campaign as well.
However, if Chelsea FC decides to pursue Henderson’s transfer, the goalkeeper would certainly make the move to Stamford Bridge. Reports suggest that Frank Lampard is willing to shell out £50million to sign the 23-year old Henderson.
Although Henderson has voiced his desire of playing for Manchester United FC, the goalkeeper would be enticed by the motive of being able to feature in the Champions League if he signs for the Blues. Greater first-team opportunities for Henderson could enable him to replace Pickford as England’s first-choice goalkeeper at next year’s UEFA Euros.
Henderson’s current contract with Manchester United FC runs until 2022. The player is widely assumed to be De Gea’s ideal successor as the Red Devils goalkeeper. However, Solskjaer could be tempted to sell Henderson if Chelsea FC meets Manchester United FC’s valuation of the player.
