According to reports, Chelsea FC believes that Liverpool FC target Timo Werner can be tempted away from the player’s desire to move to Anfield.
The Blues are on the hunt for a new attacking option in the upcoming transfer window as manager Frank Lampard seeks to ease the burden on the young shoulders of striker Tammy Abraham. And Timo Werner, who has shone at RB Leipzig for the past couple of seasons, seem to the Blues plans. However, Werner is believed to have been wanting a move to Liverpool FC, with the player also having voiced his praise for the Merseyside club.
Chelsea FC believes that they are confident of giving more game time to Werner, who will have to compete for the striking position with Roberto Firmino if the German decides to move to the Reds. The Blues are confident of Werner having a vital role in their squad if the player chooses to sign for them. Tammy Abraham will be easier for Werner to unseat for the striker role in a team than Firmino, who has shone for Liverpool FC in recent seasons, forming a terrific attacking trio alongside Sadio Mane and Mohammad Salah.
The fact that Werner has publicly stated his desire to play under German coach Jurgen Klopp at the Reds poses some complications for Chelsea FC in singing the highly-rated striker. Werner’s style of play at his current club RB Leipzig is similar to Klopp’s ‘gene press system’ of play at Liverpool FC. However, recent reports indicated that the Reds are being priced out of a deal for Werner, with the striker’s current club unwilling to let go of their valuable player for less than €55m.
In such a scenario, the Blues are hoping to latch on the opportunity and leapfrog their Premier League rivals Liverpool FC in signing Werner. Chelsea FC have a considerable amount of money on their hands, following an inactive year in the transfer window due to the ban that had been imposed on them. Moreover, the club does need new firepower upfront as The Blues seek to mount a serious title challenge in the coming seasons.
