Chelsea FC are hoping to sign Argentian left-back Nicolas Tagliafico in the upcoming transfer window and have learned about Ajax’s asking price for the highly-rated defender. Tagliafico, who currently plays for Dutch club Ajax, has been touted to leave his present club for quite some time now with aspirations of playing in the English Premier League. However, a move to English club ‘Chelsea FC’ seems much more imminent now with the player’s agent confirming that his client seeks to leave Ajax in the next transfer window.
Tagliafico has been a revelation for Ajax in his two and a half years at the club. His performances in the UEFA Champions League last season, where Ajax was knocked out in the semifinals, were widely recognized by top European clubs. He joined the club for a mere sum of 4 million from Independiente in 2018. However, his value has soared during his time at Ajax thanks to his impressive showings as a reliant defender with all-round attacking displays on the left flank.
Chelsea FC are on the hunt for a left-back for a while now, intending to replace Marcos Alonso, whose performances have dipped since his brilliant first season at the London based club. Manager Frank Lampard is known to be an admirer of Tagliafico, who was one of the few prominent players of the Argentian squad during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Initially, Lampard was keen on signing on English left-back Ben Chilwell, who plays for Leicester City FC. However, the Chelsea FC’s manager was put off by the asking price of Chilwell by his parent club, which was rumored to be around 40 million pounds.
Ajax are believed to be looking for an amount in the region of 22 million pounds for Tagliafico when the transfer window reopens in July.
The asked amount is much lower than what Leicester City are expecting from the Blues to sign Chilwell. A price tag of around 22 million pounds would encourage Chelsea FC’s board and manager Frank Lampard to go ahead with the deal and sign Tagliafico. His worthy performances of late in the current season along with his comparatively low asking price make him a very appealing option for Lampard’s team-building process at Chelsea FC.
