According to the latest reports, Chelsea winger Willian is prepared to extend his stay at the club despite several rumours linking the Brazilian with a move away from west London in the summer.
Chelsea are placed in a tough spot with renewing Willian’s contract as the Brazilian attacker has been the subject of interest from local London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal apart from LaLiga heavyweights Barcelona.
With the Premier League suspended, Willian is one player whose contract expires at the end of June and there remains plenty of doubt whether the star attacker will remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of the season.
Chiefs in the Premier League have aimed for a Premier League return by June 12 and Chelsea are still favourites to finish inside the top four to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Players have been told that they can play for their respective clubs even after the lapsing of their contracts but no confirmation of any agreements have been made so far.
Although Chelsea are prepared to offer Willian a contract extension, they are still considering whether any long term deal makes sense for the 31-year-old to remain at Stamford Bridge given that Willian is soon entering his twilight years.
Willian himself spoke to reporters and revealed that Chelsea had in fact offered him a two-year deal but his long term future still remains in jeopardy, “It’s a difficult situation because Chelsea offered me two years and they are not going to change what they offered. I said I wanted three more years, The situation is difficult because of this. I really don’t know if it will be possible [to stay]. My goal is to continue working and focus on the remainder of the season, so that Chelsea can continue winning games. I have a clear head and I’m focused for the rest of the season that we have left. I think it’s difficult [to stay]. Let’s see what happens.”
