The last option left for Frank Lampard to get Rice on board

The West Ham United coach David Moyes said that Billy Gilmour is the one Scottish player he would sign for his club over any other.

Gilmour has made seven first squad appearances for the Chelsea F.C and had a highly impressive breakthrough campaign over the course of the season which made him earn widespread praise and support from the Blues manager, Frank Lampard and even from Roy Keane.

The Hammers manager David Moyes reported that he has seen all the rumors linking the prized midfielder of the London club, Declan Rice with a move to Chelsea and jokingly announced his desire to bring Gilmour to West Ham in response.

Recently it was reported from many media sources that West Ham will resist any approach from both Chelsea and Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window as they have no interest in selling their ace midfielder Declan Rice.

Speaking to BBC Scotland’s Scottish football podcast, David Moyes admitted that: “I was laughing because I keep getting told that Chelsea want Declan Rice, so I thought well I might just decide I want Billy Gilmour and see how it goes.”

Declan Rice scored two goals and provided two assists in 90 appearances for the West Ham United club and his skills both offensive and defensive in the midfield region are hugely responsible for the recent successes of the Hammers.

Moyes also added: “The one [Scottish player] who if I could sign tomorrow I would is Billy Gilmour after his opening performances for Chelsea.

“He’s looked like a seasoned pro, he’s looked like somebody who’s hungry, who’s in love with the game.”

Gilmour has broken into the Scottish U21 side recently due to his high-quality performances at Stamford bridge and subsequently at Scottish international level and Moyes believes the 18 year old may be the player to offer his nation some hope.

David Moyes went on saying in the interview that:“He’s typical of what my memories are of what Scottish players were like going back many, many years. We were always good players, really talented football players, and at the moment Billy Gilmour in the short period I’ve seen him has looked like that all day long

“We need to start getting a Scottish national team that gives us some hope but he’s certainly a really talented looking player.”

Billy Gilmour had not only impressed the Hammers coach but also his Scottish international team mate, the left back of Liverpool, Andy Robertson. In the FA cup game against Liverpool in March, the young midfielder had produced an extraordinary performance that really thrusted him into the spotlight in which Chelsea won 2-0.

That performance paved way for Gilmour to his full Premier League debut in a Super Sunday game with Everton and a call up from the Scotland international squad on Robertson’s recommendation.

The Blues management along with the manager Frank Lampard are very interested in making a move for Rice, who left the Chelsea club at 14 years old to join the Hammers.

The recent interview of the Hammers Manager David Moyes might give some hope to Frank Lampard to get the fantastic midfielder on board. Chelsea and Frank Lampard should tactically use Billy Gilmour as a bait to lure David Moyes and his club into selling Delcan Rice if both the parties agree, which will become an invaluable addition to the Chelsea midfield options.
