Chelsea midfielder is keen to model his own game on a number of Barcelona superstars and admitted his admiration for midfield maestro Sergio Busquets.
Blues prodigy Billy Gilmour has opened up on his affection for Barcelona and Spain midfielder Sergio Busquets, while also revealing praise he received from Scotland captain Andy Robertson following the 2-0 win against Liverpool in the FA Cup.
The 18-year-old Gilmour burst on to the scene for Chelsea this season after a series of impressive performances under Frank Lampard.
The young Scotsman has shown some real potential in the centre of the park and has long looked up to players like Sergio Busquets, as the Barcelona star is one of the best at subtly dictating a game.
While speaking to Sky Sports, the Chelsea prodigy explained how he initially looked up to players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but then decided to analyze players that best suited his game.
Gilmour stated, “When I was real young I used to watch [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi, as everyone did, but when I started analysing my game more and seeing who I would progress and hope to be like, it was more like Sergio Busquets.”
Gilmour then claimed that he has tried to imitate Busquets’ game style at Barcelona, “You watch Busquets individually and everything happens around him. But when you watch Barcelona, you don’t really see Busquets. But that’s the kind of player I’ve always looked up to and just wanted to be that kind of player to get on the ball and make things happen.”
Following the 2-0 win against Liverpool in the FA Cup, Reds’ left-back Andrew Robertson spoke to Gilmour and praised the young midfielder “He came up to me after the game and he was just saying ‘Well done, you played really well, keep doing it and hopefully see you soon in the first-team’. So that was great to hear that from the captain of my country.”
Chelsea are currently fourth on the Premier League table as Frank Lampard hopes to maintain his good form and qualify for the Champions League next season.
