Chelsea were 2-0 winners over Liverpool as both sides clashed Stamford Bridge. It was an interesting evening of football as both English giants (Chelsea and Liverpool) took to the pitch in London.
Both sides may have met earlier in the season but it was an unpredictable match prior to the fixture. This was because both sides were disappointing at the weekend.
Chelsea drew 2-2 at the Vitality Stadium at the weekend while Jürgen Klopp’s men lost their unbeaten streak in the Premier League against Watford.
However, with Chelsea prevailing over the Reds, we evaluate the three possible lessons we learned from the match.
CHELSEA ADVANCE IN FA CUP
The Blues might have drawn at AFC Bournemouth last week with the 2-2 scoreline based on their poor run of form. But they have made a positive ride in the oldest competition in English football.
The Chelsea side defeated Liverpool 2-0 at home, Stamford Bridge thus moving into the next stage of the competition.
This sees them join the likes of fellow Londoners Arsenal who defeated Portsmouth 0-2 away from home.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard would be delighted with this feat even as the result eases the pressure on his shoulders as the case may be.
WILLIAN INSPIRED CHELSEA
The Brazilian was exceptional once again for Chelsea as they overcome the Liverpool side at the Bridge. The home side ensured the win even as the playmaker opened the scoring in the 13th minute.
It was Willian’s second attempt as Adrian put a great hand to save his first effort inside the box. The Brazilian made way for Italian midfielder Jorginho as Lampard aimed to preserve the exemplary Chelsea star ahead of the weekend clash as Everton visits Stamford Bridge on Super Sunday.
CHELSEA ATTAIN REVENGE
The Chelsea side went into the clash aiming to get their acts together with the sole of beaten the Liverpool side at home. This was beyond the FA Cup challenge as the London clubs got motivated for this match after losing 1-2 at home to Liverpool earlier in the season.
Chelsea’s goalscorer on the occasion in N’golo Kante was not available for this match as he is out injured.
However, the likes of Mateo Kovacic who was terrific in transition alongside Willian and Ross Barkley as the Blues may have avenged th defeat they suffered in the hands of Liverpool earlier in the season at home.
