The Blues lost in an uncharacteristic manner as goals were conceded in each half by the Chelsea defense. It was not the result Frank Lampard desired as they lost 0-2 to Manchester United.
The Chelsea side would be feeling bad for many reasons as they believed they deserved more from the match.
This saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side get the better of the guys from Stamford Bridge as we saw from the final result at the end of the 90 minutes.
Following the match happenings, we evaluate three talking points from the match as Chelsea lose 0-2 to Manchester United at home.
European Problem For Chelsea
The Blues lost 0-2 to Manchester United at home throwing the race for the top four positions open to capable competitors. We have seen the likes of Tottenham Hotspur managed by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho win away at Aston Villa more as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United may fancy their chances with their victory at Chelsea as the top four presents an interesting conquest at the moment.
Chelsea’s match inconsistency has made this possible despite getting their hands firmly on the 4th spot at a point in the season.
The Londoners need to find their consistency and game rhythm otherwise they may kiss European football goodbye for next term as the season continues to unfold with reference to a Champions League places.
Harry Maguire Incident
The defender was lucky to escape a red card following his stamp on forward Michy Batshuayi. It was a dangerous contact whatsoever as itvwas reviewed to an extent by the video assistant reference (VAR).vThe incident is not encouraging and the former Leicester City manvshould have been sent off in my opinion.
It was a stamp in between the loins of the Belgian International as both players clash outsides the pitch when struggling to find balance from falling to the ground.
While Harry was on the floor not been able to hold himself physically from the ground, Batshuayi was running towards the same direction for support as well.
It was a bizarre one, though Harry was protecting himself but the referee knows best as we expect a further review from this incident as the case may be.
VAR Intervention For United
Manchester United would be the happier of the two sides as the VAR played a big part in their victory on the road.
This would infuriate the Chelsea faithful as well as Frank Lampard as his side was denied on two occasions while they conceded twice against visitors Manchester United.
With United one goal up, Chelsea thought they were back in the game with defender Kurt Zouma heading into the net. It was ruled out for offside more as Olivier Giroud’s leader failed to count despite the brilliant (effort) header from the French striker.
In the end, VAR had all the answers in the contest with Chelsea been denied on two occasions.
