Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has stated that the Blues will make a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window due to their lack of goals from midfield this term.
Chelsea is currently sitting in fourth place on the Premier League table, two points ahead of fifth-placed Sheffield United, however, Frank Lampard’s men do have a game in hand over Chris Wilders’ Blades.
The West London outfit has shown some inconsistent form of late, winning just one of their last five league encounters.
But the 48-year-old Hutchison believes that if Chelsea obtains Champions League football by finishing in fourth place, then English winger Sancho will be their number one transfer target heading into the next season.
While speaking to The Weekend Review, Hutchinson stated that Chelsea will go out to spend big on the 19-year-old Sancho either by hook or by crook because he can score goals, “They’ve somehow, by hook or by crook, got to get top four because I can more or less guarantee the one player they’ll go and get is Jadon Sancho, It was the same when [Maurizio] Sarri was there. The midfield players; Jorginho doesn’t score unless he’s scoring penalties, [Mateo] Kovacic for a man of his ability doesn’t score enough, when Ross Barkley is playing he doesn’t get them, [N’golo] Kante, Willian should score a lot more, [Callum] Hudson-Odoi, who is coming off the back of an injury doesn’t get enough goals.
The teenage sensation has already scored 15 goals and notched up 17 assists in 29 appearances across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund this season.
