An advance in the FA Cup has brought good spirits at Chelsea, but a nervy 2-1 victory over Hull City isn’t exactly a celebratory moment with the January transfer deadline approaching closure and still no signings made for the club.
With the lack of signings for Chelsea since the window opened, fans have given their opinions and the displeasure of no fresh signings is sure to put pressure on the club with just a small amount of time remaining.
Edinson Cavani could be a strong link
32-year-old star striker Edinson Cavani has been in major talks with Atletico Madrid, but a salary cap has been preventing the move from taking place, Edinson has shown a keen interest in Madrid but with that deal looking to fall through; a move to Chelsea could be a huge possibility.
Interest for the Uruguayan is currently chased by rivals Manchester United but with Edinson’s main interest A.Madrid looking bleak; it’s believed that Chelsea would be his second-best option.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker was left from the squad in team’s 2-0 win against Lille the other night, which makes it apparent there is unease for him at the club. Although he hasn’t been the only player linked with Chelsea in recent weeks. Ben Chilwell, Wilfried Zaha, and Jadon Sancho have also been under the scope of the blues.
Lampard looking to ease the pressure
It doesn’t matter all that much if Edinson Cavani were to sign with Atletico Madrid because Frank Lampard’s quest for a striker to help ease the pressure on Tammy Abraham will continue either way.
With the transfer deadline looming, the rush to make final squad additions can be a hectic one but Frank Lampard remains to keep his cool in media interviews. The Chelsea boss has stated that he’ll find a striker for his side in order to ease the pressure of Abraham. The latest name amongst transfer rumours is AC Milan’s, Krzysztof Piatek.
Piatek hasn’t looked like a staple for Milan with the recent return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and rumours report the striker’s agents had offered his services to Chelsea. Nothing is official, but certainly a possibility. The Polish international had an incredible previous season and has sparked interest from Chelsea rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the same time.
Blues fans are slowly becoming frustrated with only 2 days remaining for clubs to make new signings, especially since the club fought long and hard to have their transfer ban shortened. Frank Lampard realized the importance of signing a new striker before the week is out, Chelsea’s schedule ahead of them is a daunting one without a key goal scorer. Possession has been solid for Chelsea but their lack of goal and finishers is evident.
Looking forward: Leicester, Manchester United, Tottenham & Bayern Munich
The Blues will face a tough battle as the underdogs in the midlands against Leicester this Saturday. The absence of Tammy Abraham at the King Power Stadium this weekend could be a crucial one for Lampard and his squad. The Chelsea top goal scorer limped off the pitch against Arsenal mid-week and the Chelsea boss has admitted his return is unlikely. So, who will replace him?
It’s highly likely that Belgium backup Michy Batshuayi will replace Abraham, but it’ll be his first start for Chelsea so manager Frank Lampard will need to put all his trust into the striker, with such an important three points at stake.
If you think Leicester was the end, you’d be wrong. The return to Stamford Bridge will see Chelsea play hosts to their arch-rivals Tottenham and Manchester United, with a cheeky visit from Bayern Munich to follow. The pressure on Frank has been turned up, and with two days remaining on the transfer window; the club has to act fast or their strike force could be in jeopardy for the remainder of the season. Obviously, Abraham won’t be side-lined forever but he’s in need of a partner in crime with or without his presence on the pitch. Chelsea’s options are becoming slim with multiple clubs approaching the same players.
